Express Entry in Canada:

Express Entry in Canada is a management application service that Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada uses to administer and service applications received from three of the federal and provincial financial immigration consultants for eligible employees.

When you receive an Invitation to Apply, you can file an official permanent residence application. This form is fully submitted online.

Eligibility:

There are three programs under which you may be eligible to apply under express entry:

Federal Skilled Worker Program:

This is for skilled workers with experience gained outside Canada and would like to immigrate to Canada.

The applicant must have all three minimum requirements:

Skilled work experience

Skilled work experience means you’ve worked in 1 of these National Occupational Classification (NOC) job groups:

  • Managerial jobs (skill level O)
  • Professional jobs (skill level A)
  • Technical jobs and skilled trades (skill level B)

You must show that while working in your primary occupation you performed the duties set out in the lead statement of the occupational description in the NOC.

Language ability

You must:

take approved language tests in English or French for:

      • writing
      • reading
      • listening
      • speaking

get a minimum score of Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) 7 in all 4 abilities

enter the test results in your Express Entry profile

Your language tests are valid for 2 years after the date of the test result. They must be valid on the day you apply for permanent residence

Education:

If you went to school in Canada, you must have a certificate, diploma or degree from a Canadian:

  • secondary (high school) or
  • post-secondary school

If you have foreign education, you must have:

  • a completed credential, and
  • an Educational Credential Assessment report from an approved agency showing that your education is equal to a completed certificate, diploma or degree from a Canadian:
    • secondary (high school) or
    • post-secondary school

Proof of Funds: You must show that you have enough money for you and your family to settle in Canada, unless you:
Are currently able to legally work in Canada: i.e. you have a valid work permit

Have a valid job offer from an employer in Canada.

Federal Skilled Trade Program:

This is for skilled workers who would like to become permanent residents based on being qualified in a skilled trade

Skilled work experience: Skilled trades for the Federal Skilled Trades Program are organized under these groups of the National Occupational Classification (NOC):

  • Major Group 72, industrial, electrical and construction trades
  • Major Group 73, maintenance and equipment operation trades
  • Major Group 82, supervisors and technical jobs in natural resources, agriculture and related production
  • Major Group 92, processing, manufacturing and utilities supervisors and central control operators
  • Minor Group 632, chefs and cooks
  • Minor Group 633, butchers and bakers

The major NOC groups are subdivided into different occupations, and they are all skill type B.
Language ability:

You must:

  • take approved language tests in English or French for:
    • writing
    • reading
    • listening
    • speaking
  • get a minimum score of Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) 7 in all 4 abilities
  • enter the test results in your Express Entry profile

Your language tests are valid for 2 years after the date of the test result. They must be valid on the day you apply for permanent residence

Education: There is no education requirement for the Federal Skilled Trades Program. But, if you want to improve your rank in the Express Entry pool, there are ways you can do this.

1. if you went to school in Canada, you can get points for a certificate, diploma or degree from a Canadian secondary (high school) or post-secondary school

2. If you have foreign education, you can get points for
a completed foreign credential and an Educational Credential Assessment report from an approved agency showing that your education is equal to a completed certificate, diploma or degree from\

  • a. Canadian:
  • b. secondary (high school) or post-secondary school

Proof of Funds: You must show that you have enough money for you and your family to settle in Canada, unless you:

Are currently able to legally work in Canada- i.e. you have a valid work permit
Have a valid job offer from an employer in Canada.

Canadian Experience Class:

This is for skilled workers who have Canadian work experience and want to become permanent residents.

Work Experience:

have at least 1 year of skilled work experience in Canada in Noc O, A or B in the last 3 years before you apply. The work experience must be:

  • full time or
  • b. an equal amount in part-time

According to the Canadian National Occupational Classification, skilled work experience means:

  • managerial jobs (skill level 0)
  • professional jobs (skill type A)
  • technical jobs and skilled trades (skill type B)
  • Your work experience can be in 1 or more NOC O, A or B jobs.

Language ability:

You must:

  • take approved language tests in English or French for:
    • writing
    • reading
    • listening
    • speaking
  • get a minimum score of Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) 7 in all 4 abilities
  • enter the test results in your Express Entry profile

Your language tests are valid for 2 years after the date of the test result. They must be valid on the day you apply for permanent residence

    your education is equal to a completed certificate, diploma or degree from a Canadian
  • b. Secondary (high school) or post-secondary school

For Permanent Residence (after invitation to apply has been received)

  • Work Experience

Profile Submission:

Your express entry profile where you share information with IRCC about yourself. If you are eligible, your profile will be accepted into their pool of candidates. You will be ranked in the Express Entry pool using a points-based system. Your score is basis the information provided by you.

Receive an Invitation to Apply:

IRCC will send an invitation to candidates with the highest score in the pool. If you are invited to apply, you’ll have 60 days to submit your application for permanent residence. Most applications gets processed within 6 months.
